What our registration lets us sign for
A Type 1 uses a tank and a drain field, and it can have a pump — the type is about how well it treats the sewage, not how it moves it. Step up to a Type 2 and it has to hit a tighter number for suspended solids and five-day biochemical oxygen demand. That means more equipment in the ground, and more to maintain.
Who keeps the paperwork
Island Health does. They take the package in before anything's dug, and they take the certification in once the work's done. Whatever record exists for a system already in the ground, they keep that too — it's the first place we look when nobody can say what's buried out there.
