What happens before any of it

What our registration lets us sign for
A Type 1 system is a septic tank and a dispersal field. The name is about how well the effluent gets treated, not about how it gets moved along, so a Type 1 system is allowed a pump. A Type 2 system has to hit a tighter number for suspended solids and for five-day biochemical oxygen demand. That means more equipment sitting in the ground, and more to maintain afterwards.
Who ends up holding the paperwork
Island Health does. It takes the package in before anything is dug, and it takes the certification in once the work is done. It also keeps whatever record exists for a system that is already in the ground, which is the first place we look when nobody can say what is buried out there.
